as what began as a seemingly ordinary house fire. and the judge issues the sentence prisons, what newly released testimony reveals about the kidnapping of jaycee ee committee bay area news coverage starts right now. this is bay area news at 7:00. it is thursday, june 2. this is bay area news at 7:00. we begin with today's devastating loss for the san francisco fire department. one firefighter was kill canned and to others were injured, one critically. we just received these photos of f lieutenant perez who was killed and firefighter paramedic who was seriously injured. they were inside a burning home this morning when they were hit with an explosion of flames called a flash over. fire officials say it suddenly

engulfed the room they were in. we have live team coverage for you tonight in the aftermath of the tragedy. we will go to the scene where the fire broke out. but first we will go to station 26 where the fire fighters were stationed. john? >> reporter: here at fire station 26, the flag is flying half staff because a firefighter based here today ky died. as his body was taken to the coroners office. this happened just hours after the fire that took his life. >> reporter: as word spread, that he died today, other firefighters rushed to the station house to offer comfort and support. no one here would talk with us. >> but at san francisco general hospital where he died fire chief joann hayes. >> he was a great guy and served in the fire department

for 21 years. he was a class mate of mine. we started out together on april 2, 1990. he was born and raiseed in san francisco, a very proud san franciscoian. >> he had at least 20 years on the job. his brother's a san francisco police officer. others told me he was a firefighter's firefighter. the mayor also went to the hospital. >> it just reminds all of us how dangerous this job is and how appreciative we are for people who put their lives on the line. >> reporter: this afternoon, someone brought a tray full of sandwiches to the station for firefighters. i received a text message from a friend of mine who said about perez quote i don't know who didn't like him as a person or respect him as a firefighter. do his memory justice. the injured firefighters

were brought to the hospital and a at that team of trauma specialist went into action. they did everything they could to save the life of perez. >> we try today support his heart to try to get him through but after an approximate 30 minute period of time we weren't able to recess tait him and they passed away: they'rere now doing everything possible to try to save the life of anthony -- they're saying that today's incident was triggered by aa flash over. we have the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: the street is still blocked off. you can see the yellow tape and i want you to look just down the waivment the green house where -- way. the green house is where the fire happened. they're trying to figure out what caused the fire and where the fire started. but they have been here now more than eight hours.

here are some aerials showing the damage of the house. the firefighters who were injured were inside at the time and it aappears to be they were injured by a flash over. we asked mindy to explain what that is. >> it is kind of a mixture of heated gases and oxygen and, you know, the fuel. it all reaches a certain ignition point and ignites at one time. >> reporter: three firefighters were caught inside. when they did not respond, the commander called for a rapid intervention and sent additional crews for a rescue m they were down badly burned. the third was able to make it out of the building. four people were inside the house and managed to get out. neighbors say they seen white smoke comeing from the garage

door. one problem is the house appears to be two stories from the front but there are two additional stories on the back. two firemen were at the garage door but they were unconscious. and so the ambulance was here. they put them on a stretcher. i saw them doing cpr and then a big black cloud blew up above the house. >> back here live at the scene, we understand that the american red cross is helping the four people who lived in the house tonight. they did not want to talk with us. you can see the firefighters there. it appears that according to the spokeswoman they were all doing the standard operations when the flashover happens: but ut they're not sure what caused that flashover. we are hoping to get more information shortly. the battalion chief does say this road will be closed for most of the expeeng they will be here -- evening and they will be here overnight to watch this scene. reporting live in san

francisco, ktvu channel 2 new. >> >> today's loss is the first time in eight years a san francisco firefighter has been fatally injured. in january of 2003, 46-year-old minda was thrown from the fire truck when they took off the seat belt to reach for a head phone. it was on rule to a call at the airport. she died five days later aat a hospital. -- at a hospital. for the last two fire fighters who died in the line of duty. the county firefighters matthew burton and desmond died in san pablo in 2007. the people who lived inside the house were also killed. it had two roofs which allowed pressure to buildup. >> for more coverage along with a key doe condolence page -- >> you stole my life and that of my family. those are jaycee's words read in court by her mother at the

sentencing. phillip was sentence thed to 4311 years. his wife nancy to 36 years to life. both entered plea deals in april for the 1991 kidnapping and the following 18 years of captivity and repeated rape. she herself was not in the courtroom for the sentencing hearing. nancy made a statement through her attorney. >> she said there's, the words are not enough and what i did is evil and every time i look in the mirror it reminds me of how evil i was. >> a possible but unlikely that nancy could be released on parole. but by that time she will be in her 70s. >> late this afternoon we have 123 pages of grand jury m the, 34 pages were deleted because they were deemed too sexually in nature. her own account of when she was kidnapped and what happen today her while she was held captive. rita williams has been pouring through the document and is life with what she has found. >> reporter: this is that grand

jury transcript, just released a few hours ago. a judge refused to release 34 more pages why she describes the rape and sexual abuse she endured from phillip that resulted in her giving birth to two daughters. >> there are some specific details tas court illuded to that are horrendously graphic x. the court description was that it is pornographic. >> she says she was walking to a school bus stop near her south lake tahoe home when nancy and phillip zapped her with a stun gun, put her in a car and took them to her house where she was held captive for 18 years. she said as the car drove off quote i heard voices in the front. the man said i can't believe we got away with it. and he started laughing. she says that the sexual abuse started right away. questions from the prosecutors three years is when you became

pregnant and you ultimately had a baby? >> jaycee yeah. in that span of time i finally met his wife. i don't remember how i found out but i remember back in the studio room and he comes in with his wife and introduces me to her. until now we have heard little from jaycee, herself about ordeal. but she has written a book, and it is the sceblg yuled for release -- scheduled for release next month. rita williams, channel 2 new. >> the uc berkeley police officer who helped bring her captive toy an end says justice has been done today. >> and fortunately it took -- unfortunately it took so long and she had to suffer for so long for this to happen. >> officer jacobs questions him when he appeared on the burke lee campus and she discovered -- and they rescued her and her two children from the compound.

[screaming] let me in. a man pounded on a door as a tornado pounded down on his house. it also destroyed homes and businesses in eight towns. five people are dead, one is wounded following a murder suicide in yuma, arizona. the gunman was a 73-year-old man and all of the shootings are connected to a divorce case. one of those killed is a lawyer who represented the man's ex- wife. the identity of the other victims have not been released. the shootings also placed this morning and ended with the gunman taking his own life. no sign of a nursing student last seen a week ago. we talked with police to say there's a person of interest who was once a good friend of the missing woman. >> reporter: moments ago, police aannounced a person of interest, a former friend of lee. police say they had a falling out. family members say the search

is intensifying for 26-year-old michelle lee, a nursing student who left the hospital on break and never returned. michael lee, michelle's brother said he and his family are doing all they can to find her. their father just flew into town earlier this week to help. >> i am only 20 years old. i don't have that much resources to be able like facebook and fliers. but my family has come in and they have new ideas. >> michelle lee's white honda was seen driving out of the parking garage on friday. it didn't clearly show who was driving the car. it was later found a few blocks away. police say they have questioned several people, people they call persons of interest. this is not just a short, you know, where were you on the night of kind of thing. had this is an in depthinterview. we have done 15 to 20 of those. >> they are waiting for more

another storm moves in. with that we will increase the rain fall rate. first thing tomorrow morn, partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies, and livermoore around 45. here is the set up for tomorrow. the main system is still way out here, but we will increase the clouds and also bring in showers for your friday. it is not a big deal but enough to wet the bay area roadways into the afternoon and evening commute. the weekend periods of rain as the storm center just basically goes off. we could be talking about rain and it can be heavy at times especially for saturday morning, but we still have passing showers throughout the day on saturday. then also on to sunday. we will have to hold that chance into monday of next week. then some changes beyond that beyond. here we go with the forecast model. tomorrow morning at 8:00. the clouds on the increase, possibility of sprinkles up in the north bay and the rain fall expands over the bay area late tomorrow morning into the afternoon hours. by 5:00, we still have rain
